The process of creating this piece was interesting from the conceptualization: the position of alertness, the way of turning the body. I wanted to transmit the gift, the passion and the force of the sea in a single bronze sculpture. It is aimed at people who are leaders, who set trends and dictate the course to follow.

Fame and art on the work of “Sebastian”
May 25, 2017

Presenting with effort but at the same time successfully artistic discourse is exalted in two dimensions and seeks to use each movement to not present sentimentality but perception, is what Sebastián (Enrique Carbajal) achieves in each of his representations. It is not necessary to know the artist to realize that each one of his works expresses a deep reflection that can tuck you for long hours, the same hours that Sebastian dedicates to each of his projects to ensure that you do not lost your admiration and attraction for them; At least that’s what happens to me. The cultivated history of the Renaissance period and its desire to continue learning more of the history of art, were those elements that left a great impact on the essence of young Enrique Carbajal González, who now many lovers of the plastic arts we know it faithfully as “Sebastian”.   Who’s Sebastian? Enrique Carbajal was born in the very well known Chihuahua in the last year of 1947, but the true essence that marked a new path that is known as Sebastián, saw the true light in the year of 1968. This name became more than just a card of presentation, became a reminder of a great event in the life of Sebastián, which was when he managed to become honorary member of the Academy of Arts in The Hague, located in the Netherlands. To take a tour of the different artistic centers and museums of the country, is to travel to a safe meeting to one of the many works that this artistic essence has created in his years of career, moreover, I cannot help but remember that Sebastián’s art and fame has been deserving of many honorable and award-winning distinctions, including the Medaille de la ville de Paris and the Jerusalem Prize. Among the different features that serve to describe Sebastian is his insatiable curiosity that encourages him to continue investigating and discovering a diversity of topics that not only make him grow intellectually, but also helps to elevate his artistic essence and expression more and more. In the same way, this need to continue investigating and searching, has allowed him to become a full-time researcher for the UNAM; This event highlighted a little more its magnitude, since such an appointment has never been given to an artist in the past, as for many, artists do not investigate, but he has shown the opposite.   An essence that becomes works To be able to talk about the representation of Sebastián’s essence in his works and what it represents not only for me or for him as an artist, but for a whole culture that has influenced all the Mexican soil, you just need to publish an extensive book that can be appreciated with tranquility and that’s why to say it’s an easy and short race to comment , it would simply be a ruinous and clandestine deception for those who feel the interest of meeting and knowing Him. His work represents a wide and constant quest to express something much more than a simple combination of geometric forms in compositions presented with subjectivity, it has actually been something more related to show that you can express art in the contemporary, without having to see you influenced by sentimentality and more for free perception and interpretation. His works are influenced more by scientific intuition than by the emotional, but that particularity is what has helped his presentations obtain a nature of great scale and capacity, so much so that they have managed to excel in the urban space and that in my visits to several cities of the country I have seen and admire. Whether you are in the Federal District, Chihuahua, Morelia, Toluca, Monterrey and even in Cancun, you will find a granite of the artistic poetry of Sebastian that you will contemplate as I did. The artistic vision of this essence that is Sebastián, has also managed to capture its geometric but artistic vision in various parts of the world, from the distant Switzerland, through Israel, Brazil, Canada, the United States, Japan, and Portugal.   Science and art are part of Sebastián The ability to be able to mix in a fluent source the intelligence and sensibility of a person to imagine in his mind, transporting them to their hands and taking it to a physical level, is something that we can all achieve, but few are the ones who manage to exploit the real spark that manages to capture the attention of thousands, and that is what Sebastian represents and expresses. Sebastian becomes the owner and King of Space, which allows him to run free in every space of his imagination, to express and expose everything he has learned in each of his research and studies on geometry. Only a true researcher of the plastic arts is the one who can find a way in which the mathematics functions in his favor so that it manages to enrich all its sculptural work and to take care of the aesthetics of its presentations. A heart and a docile, expressive and experienced personality, is what upholsters the room that conforms everything that represents Sebastian in this world of hundreds of expressions, but no matter what he does with his hands, he will always appeal to you to have your own opinion of his work, because his works also reflect that freedom of understanding, that many artistic should have and that is what I love about it. Duality in ancient cultures – Mayas
May 25, 2017

Every morning when I wake up, for me it becomes almost impossible to stop thinking how special it was before I saw this sunrise, there was a sky covered by an extensive darkness, as the first breath of a baby, gives way to life and as my own life, oriented by my masculinity of birth, would not have existed without the presence of a feminine essence that will encourage my existence. That’s duality.   But when I speak of duality, most of all its significant presence in many cultures and religions, especially in one as extensive and rich as that of the ancient Maya. My life, that of all, is governed according to this culture by the constant presence of two principles of great supremacy that react independently, but that does not cease to have a leading role among themselves. In my studies and research to find new sources of inspiration for the realization of new expressions of art, I have been able to realize how the search to express harmony and balance in each of its cultural aspects is made present. To live as a result of duality, is simply to understand that in life there will always be two forces that oppose and fight each other, but it is also true that in this struggle you can always get a harmony expression that can be admired.   The Descending God The Majestic of heaven against the solidity and firmness of the face of the earth to welcome a divinity known popularly as the descending god. Imagining a god coming down from heaven to give divine presence to the peoples of the earth was something which was very common. This God not only comes forth as an entity of force that comes from heaven, but also highlights the great differential line between the peoples that are on Earth, and that despite their differences the relationship in duality will always be present. He is depicted with a figure: with his head facing the front, his arms hanging at his sides and legs bent as if he will be descending from the highest Heavens. Its historical representation and its rustic-traditional aesthetics make it much more striking to represent such important details of the culture. Venus – the Evening Star Just as the world can give me good news, for the Maya Venus meant much more than an evening star announcing the morning for almost 90 days in their calendar. This body of heavens showed a synonym for bad News, baleful omens and approximation of new wars that would affect the constant living of this culture. Once again, the duality of beliefs and influences of an ancient generation is present even in the organization of future events of this era. The morning is meant for new beginnings, but a sky adorned with this morning star, marked the beginning of new reactions and actions that makes alarm to an entire culture. On an artistic and sculptural level, Venus is represented as the warrior god who in his hands rests prepared arrows for attack, while on one side on the ground there is an enemy mortally wounded, who succumbs in pain by a dart in his body. What makes us think of it as a heavenly element, of great brilliance and presence, brings with it an antagonist so dark and cruel, expressing highly conflicting emotions both visually and internally.   Feeling the power of the sun and the divinity of the Moon Understand that constant harmonic struggle that is seen in the Mayan culture and in its history, it is not something that should only be admired through textbooks or visiting historical centers here in Tulum, I just have to admire my window and see how the sunlight reacts to the bodies of the Earth to create shadow in an enlightened world. This same relationship is within me and is what I always seek to express in each of my works and sculptures, because as I can feel complicated emotions that seek to leave, I know very well that others can also witness this in their lives. This is also reflected in the presence of the sun and the moon in a culture as large and extensive as the Mayan people, where the sun in expressing a constant beating of life and steadfastness, seeks to be in harmony with the delicacy and spiritual presence of the moon in the same sky. Many stories say that both celestial bodies sought to fall in love and live together, but rarely in certain periods of time have been able to find to create events that have marked the history of our humanity. Personally, I think that this search is not only reflected in history, it also makes a presence in my daily life, in my adult life and even in my life of memories, because internally we are always in that process of meeting ourselves, in order to express the best part of us. Whether with words, gestures, music or in my case with sculptures and plastic expressions of art, being able to convey that harmony that is in the conflict of history is vital for growth and is something that has managed to inspire me in an exceptional ways.   I’ll never be light and I’ll never be dark, I’ll always be a living expression of both entities, who seeks with his hands to express found emotions, I still do not totally know me and live to know myself each day, but will not spend any day without stopping to thank this great Mexican influence, culture and its living torrent that still remains in progress for the present. A Mexican sculptor must have deep beliefs
May 10, 2017

I consider myself a Mexican sculptor of deep beliefs. Proud of always representing Mexico in my creative, but also a professional aspect. What are my deepest beliefs? My deepest belief is the evolution of being; it is the search and the finding of what you are in this life and what you are going to do for yourself, for others and your planet. What are you going to leave behind as a Mexican sculptor? What will your learning be? That is one of the biggest beliefs that sometimes help us to realize or are limiting us. The idea of a better world, a better country.   As a Mexican sculptor, I have the idea that we can live in a healthy coexistence. It has always been part of my existence, part of my life; it is sometimes difficult to find many people who know many “how about not” things. I think we better look for the “how about yes.” The “how you can.” “Yes, you can do it.” “Yes, you can achieve it.” We can live, see how I help you, how you help me, how we help each other.   The beliefs that every Mexican creator or sculptor can implant in your family, in your society, in your community, you see them, feel them, live them, sometimes you suffer them and enjoy them, but if you believe them, they are yours. That happens inside every Mexican sculptor or creator in general. Sometimes you have limiting beliefs: the “I can not,” the “I should not.” Sometimes as a Mexican sculptor or as a creator, in general, you work with your ego, with your inner self, with your ego without ignoring everything that surrounds us. That is forming you as a being, that forms you as an artist and sculptor in Mexico, that makes you a person who did not just existed on the planet. If your beliefs are going to be positive, you’re sure going to leave something.   Be very careful with your beliefs as these can lead you to fly very high or very low and if you fly low you will have consequences, and if you fly high, you have to be prepared for strong winds. Sometimes life gives you many twists of fate … those beliefs have to be well worked out in your person. I personally believe that the beliefs that a Mexican sculptor has are complex. Because they tell you that you should be as such artist, or apply this technique or whatever is trending at the moment. I believe that the great Mexican sculptors follow an original approach, a way, an idea full of tenacity … no matter what or against whom you must go, your mission is to reflect what you think. To visualize your essence, your strength, your impetus in art, your collection of sculptures, your technique, that is one of the most difficult things.   If a Mexican sculptor tells you that he did not follow his beliefs, he was not a great artist.   You have to dream it, suffer it, enjoy it and there it stays, those beliefs of yours as an artist are shaped. It doesn’t matter if they like it or not; those beliefs are embodied in the art that you do. The hardest thing sometimes with beliefs is that you first believe it and say “but where did that belief come from or why do I have this way of thinking and feeling?” “Why don’t I look like such Mexican sculptor” or “Why not better implement this technique like that artist?”    The most important thing is when an artist puts their beliefs in front and says “this I am going to do and this is how I am going to shape it” and so I will do and execute. This creates the Mexican sculptor, forges it and makes it great; Thus transcends, lives and also places a perpetuity in his art, legacy, person, individual. But you also are part of a society of a generation, a town and a historical moment. These beliefs in the Mexican sculptor have to be based on what he feels in his intuition; they are what makes him vibrate. Be very careful, be careful if you do not listen to them.     Good bad or horrible, society often judges you, but who knows that does not affect him, the Mexican sculptor is who lives it inside, who vibrates and who enjoys it.   Only you know if you have the right beliefs or not. That is the best thing that can happen to you that your well-founded beliefs are well clung to your person and you, how you live and enjoy them.   Every Mexican sculptor knows what makes him/her celebrate life and enjoy his/her work.
